2019 Muskegon, MI - HOOTS VII This year, HOOTS returned to Michigan, this time to spend a week of FUN in Muskegon. We made a big splash with 50 coaches at the Duck Creek RV Resort near the shores of Lake Michigan.
A big thanks to Midway RV for providing coaches for us to view, in addition to a great lunch!
Riding the Luge!
The Hoots always break free from the normal RV rally activities and this year is no different. We did several fun and exciting things, but nothing as crazy as "Riding the Luge"
Muskegon has one of the few all-season luge tracks in the USA, and we were there to test it out. It was off-season for the track, but they opened it just for our group, so we had it all to ourselves.
After signing a very detailed Injury Waiver, choosing our helmets and getting careful operator instructions, we were off to the track.
There is nothing as funny and entertaining as watching a bunch of seniors trying to act like nimble 10-year-olds. The most entertaining part was watching everyone get down to ground level on the sled, then trying to stand back up at the end of the ride.
This event was a blast with everyone smiling from ear to ear the entire time. It was an awesome "Once in a lifetime" experience. (Now pass the Ben-Gay).
Jeeps On The Dunes
In the second big HOOTS’ Jeep adventure, Steve S. led us out to the sand dunes along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
It was an incredible day of fun playing "King of the Hill" and learning how to properly attack the inclines in order to make it to the top.
These Hoots know how to have fun!
Of course, It's all fun and games until you have to come home and shovel out all the sand and wash out the undercarriage, and we’re not just talking about the Jeep!
Mac's Dune Rides
It was a perfect day and a bunch of us headed off to Mac's for a tamer and more scenic way to spend time on the dunes.
This is a guided, open roof buggy ride along the dunes of Lake Michigan to enjoy the incredible landscape and fabulous views. We even spent some time with the butterflies.
Lake Michigan Boat Ride Aboard The Aquastar
Hoping to redeem himself after last year's train ride, Vinny "Choo Choo" Chianese booked us on the Aquastar for a sunset cruise along the bay in Muskegon.
Of course, bad weather rolled in and it looked like Vinny's redemption might have to wait another year. But, just after we boarded the boat in the rain, the skies began to clear a little and made for a wonderful early evening ride along the shoreline of the bay. The waters were calm, the view of the shoreline was excellent and everyone had a really great time.
Okay, Vinny, you are now fully redeemed.
The Nightly Campfire - A New Tradition?
Dave H. has a friend who lives in Muskegon with a lot of firewood and he donated two pickup truck loads for us to burn.
This was the first year we had a nightly fire and Dave and Steve S. made sure the fire was lit at dusk. Everyone brought their chairs and it made for a great social gathering. We even brought the grills one night and had an unplanned group cookout. There is always plenty to eat at a Hoots event. Just watch out for Dave's Dirty Dogs!
